Default profile for picture: use profile from picture

The three available "default profile" modes are:
- None
- sRGB
- Other
First of all, there should be a fourth option, "Use profile from picture" which would use the embedded profile.
Secondly, what exactly happens when you select "None"?

it's the default profile when there is no embedded profile

I'm not clear what you meant. If you are saying that these three choices define what should be used when the image contains no profile, and if you are implying that if the image does contain a profile then it must be used, then please consider this a feature request for XnViewMP to allow the user to use any chosen profile even if the image contains an embedded profile.

Hello again

Please look into this issue, it is important that profile handling is clear to the user, and currently it is not.

you would like to set a input profile for the picture file even if it contains one?

...Having the 4 options is better (because none is not really none if an embedded profile exist).

... So a setting to use one of the settings ("None" = sRGB by default) ... (for me)
- Embedded if exist ... ("Use profile from picture")
- sRGB (default)
- Others

... In fact, you probably just have to rename "None" to "Embedded if exist" to be clear ;-)

but currently the setting is only used when there is no embedded profile...

No, "always use default icc profile" doesn't mean anything, it's not clear.
The question is "Which image color profile to use by default?" The default should be "Use embedded profile", that is what you want 99% of the time. That must be very clear to the user. The other options "sRGB" and "Other" can remain.

It is hard for me to give a 100% correct answer if I don't see the code. You haven't told us what "None" means. Maybe just renaming "None" to "Use embedded profile" is enough.

I would like to see following wording which is self-descriptive:
Photo profile:
- use embedded and use other profile if embedded is absent of invalid \[browse button\]
- use other profile \[browse button\]
- none (output to monitor colours)
And, probably, it would be nice to be able to assign new profile to a photo (without conversion).

None is not 'use embedded profile', no profile is used if no embedded one
'default profile of picture' is when embedded profile is not here, else embedded profile is always used...

I see. Then the frame title must be changed because it's deceptive.
I suggest changing "Default profile of picture" to "Fallback profile", and adding a label inside the frame, above the "None" option, "Use this profile if the image contains no embedded profile:"
Then it will be completely clear.
