IPTC editor select fields (like Exifer)

I have been using XnView for past many years as my photo viewer. Never took much notice of XnView MP till a few weeks back.
I have been using Exifer for IPTC tagging my photos since past many years but it is not updated since 2002. However never found anything better to change selected IPTC data of multiple images. It's very easy. Even if all IPTC fields are different in multiple images, you just select all the images, open IPTC editor and select the field to be changed using a checkbox.
Now I am trying to use XnViewMP as it is actively developed. But I am finding it bit difficult when I want to change a certain IPTC field in multiple images without affecting other fields. Can there be an option to have checkboxes when changing IPTC of multiple images to select which field to change?

I support this request.

I use Exifer since I know it (2004 ??), used it as long as I used Windows computers, and kept using exifer "under" Wine since I quit (definitively I hope) the Microsoft OS world.

I still use XnView "classic" under wine for some features still missing in XnView-MP 0.72.

Exifer is a very good model of what can be done for metadata, and XnView "classic" manages Exif date/time data modifications the same way as Exifer , the **good** way. Some people think editing exif date/time data is shocking , but it's absolutely necessary when you have to synchronize pictures coming from several digital cameras having shared the same travel whith different date/time settings.

Exifer allows you to "mass enter" IPTC data in an easy way : you first select all and enter what concerns all the hundreds (?) of pictures you took, then you select less of them and you add/modify what concerns only those ones, etc.
Exifer also allows you to use "models" of IPTC data combinations, and you can set different fields of selected jpg files, according to the model or not, using checkboxes.

The only problems with exifer are
- refresh problems under wine (easy workaround - but boring when too often needed - : display a full-screen window **over** wine and iconize it as soon as displayed, to force a reflesh of wine window )
- the performance gap between Exifer under wine on a powerful PC and faster processing on an old 32bits 98SE-Windows PC ;-(

It would be nice to have (part of) the features of Exifer with the security and performance of an "healthy" living application like XnView-MP.

That would be the most flexible.
To some extent you can achieve this with some of the well-hidden options.
Open the edit-IPTC/XMP window and look far right for the "options" tab.
There are options for handling multiple file selections:
* Keep original value if new value is empty
* Replace only if original value is empty.
One possibility is to use a dummy image with all fields initially blank, then edit what you want changed and apply to all. That way only those fields will be changed.

You will still need to think carefully about what will happen. I find I sometimes need to turn these options on or off, depending on what I need to achieve, and eventually I forget to check what they were set to and mayhem ensues.
