0.82: Copy and Paste File moves Browser View

Okay - I want to copy a photo (jpg) and paste it so I can edit the copy.

Select a file in Browser Mode.
Ctrl+C
Ctrl+V
Dang! where is that file now? The Browser moved the scroll area to the bottom of the list and I can't see the file I just copied nor the one I pasted.
So I have to scroll all back through the list to find the one with the selection colour - not so nice for 200 files.

Here's what should happen.
Select File
Ctrl+C
Ctrl+V
selection set to the pasted file (the one with "Copy of" in the name)
AND if I push the enter key at this time it will open the file in View Mode.

Well, it is intermittent. But I can repeat it all over and over. Then there are times when it works.

Copy image.
Paste image.
Window scrolls to bottom and selection is not in sight.
Now I can't tell where I was in the list.
If I push enter nothing happens - since the image should be selected, you should be able to just push enter and open it into View Mode - but this doesn't work even when the sort works correctly.

Maybe this is a clue:
Name, sort Ascending.
Copy.
Paste.
Now push any of the arrow keys once - the list position moves to the very first item in the list, the "up directory" button-item and the top of the list scrolls into view.
That means the selection is not set correctly after the sort.

Just a thought: Does it make a difference if you activate/deactivate the following options?
  • Tools » Settings... » General » File operations » Automatically select new files
  • Tools » Settings... » File list » File list » New files are added at the end of the list

If I disable both settings:

Sort is set to Date.
Copy.
Paste.
The file I copied remains selected. I don't see the copy in sight, even after a refresh.
If I set Sort to Name, then I see the copy next to the original but the original is selected.

with Automatically select new files set to true and New files are added at end of list set to false:
Sort set to name.
Copy.
Paste.
The original file remains selected. <--- this is the problem, maybe? it should be the copy that is selected now.

with Automatically select new files set to false and New files are added at end of list set to true:
Sort set to name.
Copy.
Paste.
The original file remains selected.
The copy is placed according to sort order. <--error? the copy should be put at the end of the list

The results are the same with both one instance and two instances.

I think that "new files are added at the end of list" should trump the sort order when the file is created on a copy/paste action.

Yes, Pierre. I think this would be the right place for it.

Pierre, I agree, too, that the two settings should be together.

However, if I disable both settings,
Set Sort to Name(numeric)
Copy and Paste,
the original file stays selected and the copy gets added next to it in proper order.

If I set Sort to Name (NOT numeric) (both settings disabled)
Copy and Paste,
the original file stays selected and the copy gets added at the end of the list.

So, what I *want* is this:
Sort set to Name not numeric (or date), asending
Copy and Paste
new file placed next to original
new file selected so that I can immediately push enter to take it into View mode.

Maybe there could be a "duplicate" function with special parameters with options for the new name and where to show it in the list.

Hmm, I wonder what the position of the copied file should be when deactivating [ ] New files are added at the end of the list:
In sort order? Or next to the copied file? And what if several files are copied?

Note: This sounds like a feature request but I leave it here in the bug section till the expected behaviour is clarified.

When thinking about it the position of the new file is clear:
When unchecking the setting [ ] New files are added at the end of the list, the current sort order must apply and depending on the new name the copied file will sit next to the original file.
Right?
