Hello

I am a Windows 10 64bit user and spend again several hours to get up to speed with the latest ways to batch optimize JPGs for the web (ecommerce and Wordpress sites).

I am a very long time user of AcdSee (since V3), Irfanview and of course XNview. It would be absoulut ok to say that for the last 20 years when I set up a PC I installed right after a fresh OS setup Totalcommnder and the given three graphic viewers.

Anyhow
I ran again into problems yeserday to optimze my digital photos that come from a DSLR for a Wordpress site. I decided to resize all to a max width of 1920px. Then I wanted to optimize them for web use. Photoshop users know the "save for web" function. But let us not talk about Adobe. Xnview (not MP as far as I know) has in combination with the Riot.dll or .exe a similar function. Irfan too.
But I was not able to send a folder with subfolder to Riot's batch conversion with the option to override originals in subfolders.

What is the common method todays``?
Still local optimzation with Riot, Optpng etc. or do all use mostly commercial online tools?

XnView lets you shrink the filesize of JPEGs without re-encoding the image data (Edit » Metadata » Clean...):
  • Optimize (Huffman table) *
  • Remove
    • Comment
    • EXIF
    • XMP
    • EXIF thumbnail
    • IPTC
    • ICC Profile
    • Photoshop data *
    • All other 'APP' markers *
* Not available in Tools » Batch Processing... » Transformations » Image » Clean Metadata
