Comments not shown in slide show

hello,
I have added many comments to pictures of my digicam. If I open these JPGs with different programs (e.g. CanonZoomBrowserFX or ExifViewer 2.35), I can see these comments.
problem:
In XnView I can see the comments.
a) I have enabled some thumbnails labels -> I can see e.g. camera typ, but no comments
b) I want to see comments while the slide show is running.
-> slide show/further option: annotation, comment, user comment, image description and so on... nothing
Is it bug? Have I done something wrong?
I'm now very confused about these many kinds of different comments.
bye Dirk
XnView: version 1.80.2
Digicam: Canon PowerShot A80 (Exif-Version 2.20)

Could you send a sample, please?

It seems that Canon ZoomBrowserFX use an EXIF-comment which isn't according to specifications.
Although it's possible to view this comment with some viewer.
Someone told me that XnView will support this in future.

I've already fixed this bug, but can't put a new release again. If you want it, send me a mail.

Hello Pierre,
I have been made some tests. Now its possible to see EXIF-user-comments!
But if comment contains a special character like
á = á ü = ü ð = ð þ = þ and so on XnView shows only first characters till this char. The special char and all following characters are not shown.

Font ?

Hello Dirk!
• This could be related to an internal font -not configurable- in which these characters are missing…
- However, this is weird, since in such a case you might get a fake character like this :

, the text might continue…

Kind regards,
Claude

Hello Claude,
I'm not sure what you mean:
fonts of XnView or the installed fonts of my system?!
Also I can't see a box for unknown characters.
I have a WinXP with german settings - I used the MS character table tool to copy and paste the special characters into comment field.
With all other programs (e.g. IrfanView) I can see the complete comments.

XnView ones…

Hi again Dirk !
- Naturally, I meant the internal font(s)
used by XnView itself !
- The most are not configurable, that causes issues, like this is expressed -for another topic, though…- in
this thread { especially the
icfu's posting

}

Hello Pierre,
a) show EXIF-user-comment:

b) problem with special characters:

*)
c) problem that sometimes comments are not shown:
*) I tested only some german and icelandic chars!
It works - good job!
And tomorrow I will give you some further requests & suggestions!
