I think what I experienced in 0.82 MP is related to this thread.

Situation:
-- Win10 Home on a touch screen laptop, with XnViewMP 0.82 x64
-- setting of "Auto Image Size" under View and Fullscreen, with "Fit image to window"
-- setting Interface > Mouse, Left button as "Move picture"
-- using the Pan tool by touch

Problem:
-- when the picture is opened, it fits within the screen
-- when I try to pan the picture by touch, the picture immediately zoomed into actual size bigger than the screen and
　　pan with my finger (given the picture is bigger than the screen),
　　or the picture immediately zoomed into actual size which is smaller than the screen,
　　leaving the image unpanned at the center, no matter where my finger goes.
-- when I finished panning, the picture immediately fits back to the screen
-- expected behavior : the picture should not be zoomed from its starting zoom ratio, the zoom should be kept thru out the pan process.
　　I believe there is a bug in pan tool.

More info:
-- when setting of "Auto Image Size" under View and Fullscreen, with "Fit image to window width or height",
　　the immediate change of zoom does not happen when one of the dimensions of the picture is smaller than my screen,
　　at which the panning work as expected. I believe there is a bug in interaction of image zoom with the screen fitting and panning mechanisms.
　　(this is not always repeatable. Some "X > Y" images with X smaller than my screen_x and Y bigger than my screen_y, the zoom error come back. )
　　When the picture has both dimension larger than my screen,
　　the "instant zoom to actual size" come back again, which is not an expected behavior.
-- in fact, I would love to see the XnViewMP response to Pinch command on touchable laptop to zoom in and out.

you have enable 'lock zoom'

it's the correct behavior, when you click on picture, you have the view in 100%

Thanks, that's it - it's rather hard to spot that it's enabled, at least with my current color scheme.

it's the correct behavior, when you click on picture, you have the view in 100%

IMHO, when a picture in viewer is set at a zoom ratio of X%,
panning should be under this zoom ratio X%.
In fact you have implement this exactly for image not using fitted to screen for all zoom ratio.
It would be expected even when using fitted to screen, a image panning will not change zoom ratio, too.
(in fact since the image is fitted to screen, panning should have no effect or just provide a "move around" effect on screen.)

Another point is, when a fitted image is to be panned at 100% zooming,
then when I touch the screen to start panning, there are 2 unnatural elements.
first, the starting point of the pan will be unclear to the user.
Currently, XnView is implemented using his point of touch to start the pan,
the user will find it hard to control this starting point accurately for very large picture.
second, when the panning is underway, the user will find it impossible to pan from one side of
the picture to the other side, since he need to reposition his finger on the screen again for panning very large picture;
but if he removes his finger, the picture will be fitted back to screen and he loses the panning progress.
The user eventually need to change zoom and then do the panning.

this is similar to the experience when I use fit to screen and touch on very large picture in Viewer.

In the future, if you are going to add touch control to XnView, this 100% zoom character will also look strange
when the user is using the touch to select "previous / next" image in the Viewer.

Alas, no, that on its own wasn't "it" - but here's a bug in the dialogs that might be the real cause: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 68#p135668

Another oddity/bug with this:

1. Open a picture, no matter what the Settings->Auto Image Size is
2. Right Click -> Auto Image Size -> Fit Image to Window
3. Go Full Screen
4. buggy Result: It's "... large only" now :-\
5. Exit Full Screen
6. It's reset to "Fit Image To Window" now

which choice do you have in Settings>Fullscreen>auto image size?

Above is a mixture of bug reports that have all been resolved. Viewer (View Mode) and Fullscreen (Fullscreen mode) have independent settings for "Fit Image", so that's probably the reason for the problem reported last.
