Poor JPEG Quality

Hi.
Here's the scenario:
I take a DNG, run it thorough Photoshop's image processor and get a great JPEG that retains most of it's detail and it's dimensions while reducing the file size.
I try to do the same using XnConvert and can't achieve anywhere near close to the same level of detail. I think this may have something to do with it reducing the file to 72dpi straight away for JPEG. If I had a DPI action for 300dpi though, it doesn't help.
What am I missing?
I'd love to use XnConvert for a huge batch - but not at the cost of quality.
