Support for filenames with international characters

Can you support loading of files names with international characters? I've always had an error while opening these files.

XnView MP supports Unicode characters as does XnConvert for batch processing, but realistically it unlikely that support will ever be added to XnView Classic: if it could be added easily Pierre would likely have added it already...

Surely this isn't hard to implement. No other image application I've used has this issue.
For example I have a directory named スタッフ
And inside this is a file named 1.jpg.
If I try loading it I get Error opening file \????\1.jpg
Think I'll post it as a bug.

only XnViewMP has unicode support

Have you tried XnView MP?

I have the same problem with Hebrew folder name and Windows 10. Windows 7 had no issue.
Update: found the solution for Windows 10:
Change the default Language for non-Unicode programs to the desired language (Hebrew in my case).

Yes.
Eventhough you may open files with Unicode chars after doing proper regional setting for non-Unicode programs, the filenames appear garbled and the file names appear incorrectly encoded on the title bar and navigation tab of XnView Classic viewer. This problem is only present with Windows 11, see my last post here:

I never had this issue on Windows 7 for example.

A limitation no doubt, but do you have a reason for not moving to XnView MP now? Full Unicode support, the editing functions are now very mature, the browser image management functions exceed those in 'Classic and are under continuing development. And also available in 64-bit versions.
But also some issues with Windows 11 due to Microsoft's continuous changes...
