<Moderator's note: This topic has been moved>
I'm a first-time user of XnView and I'm stumped. I brought up the BMP photo from My Pictures to the XnView page (taken in BMP by Ulead Photo Explorer) and tried to convert it to JPEG, but nothing happened when I hit "go". What the heck am I doing wrong or not doing? Please advise and thanks
Really a BMP ?

Hello Linda, welcome !
• Please, let's know what is the size of the picture (in pixels H*W), and what is its size in KB.
- This information is shown in the status-bar of XnView, you must set it via “
View” menu
>> click on the entry
Status-bar wich becomes ticked.
- Some pictures saved directly via Windows stuff could have a fake extension
- You could try also to save the pic as JPG, simply using the entry “Save as…” of the File menu, or :
Ctrl+Shift+S with the keyboard…
• To be continued…

Kind regards,
Claude,
Clo

Can you see this .bmp image in xnview? If so, it should be possible to convert it.
Can you convert other .bmp files in xnview?

For a single image you shouldn't use "Tools > Convert". Instead, simply save the image (see Clo's post above).

I guess the problem is that he didn't selected the file before clicking "go".
Check in the "Input list" in the top of the convert window, to see if your image path is there.

if not click "add" to add the file, or "add folder" to add all the pics in the selected folder
