Have category structure open on the right site of XnViewMP screen and notice inconsistency for some pictures in that screen compared to the IPTC info screen which I want to correct. The category shows more ticks than the IPTC info screen. When I try to deselect a (sub-)category through the catogory screen the program hangs(cursor keeps on turning indefinetely). Stop with Task manager is required and anfterwards XnView restarts as usual.

XnView MP version 083.x64 build 6.92 running under W10-1607 on 64bit. Same effect on my 32bit computer also under W10-1607.

So I must be doing something wrong. Could anyone give me a hint what could be the cause?

Please find attached a screenshot of the situation. One of the pictures causing problems is selected. The categories screen shows with green frame the categories corresponding with the data in the IPTC screen. The two red frames show the categories added after opening and causing the program to hang. Hanging cursor is not visible. I also added screen shots of the most relevant settings, the picturefile itself and a copy of the IPTC.ini-file. Thanks for loooking into this issue.

I only noticed 1 file uploaded in stead of 3 intended. Here is another try.

The current forum limit is eight...

It is possible to place attachments inline in a post, but I don't think (from memory) that is necessary for multple attachments. Alteratively, you can attach a ZIP or RAR archive.

on this image file, i have 4 categories. are you able to reproduce the crash when deselecting a category?

A shown in the pfd file which I uploaded earlier (2nd uploaded file) you can see that the IPTC screen shows 3 fields ('Familie', 'Bruiloften', '40 jaar'), not 4. On the categories the screen on the right side 5 fields are marked. The 3 which are identical to the IPTC screen I highlighted with a green border, the 2 missing in IPTC a red border (these are the fileds 'Frans' and 'Tineke'). This is the reproduction of the situation I asked your advice on. The crash occurs when I try to unmark the red bordered fields. The crash only shows as an unending turning cursor which does not show in a screenshot. What else could I upload to help you finding a cause for this issue?

Hi Pierre, here is another try with the pdf file I tried to upload earlier which in fact is different from the one you show.
BTW: I just saw the release notes of version 0.84 and some bugs seem similar to my issue. Do you recognize my issue form the issues solved already? Should I wait with the installation of 0.84 until you have been able to look into my situation?

When deselecting a category, XnView tries to update the on-disk metadata. Perhaps you have in your DB an offline file? IOW a file which isn't reachable anymore: a deleted file, a moved/renamed file, a Read-Only file/volume, or (worse) a file on an offline unit (eg. an external disk, offline network share etc)? Especially the last possibility would explain the lag.

For how many files selected do you try to deselect the category?

Dear m.Th. I only try to deselect a category in 1 photo at a time and I do not have offline files. All the files I work on in
cluding the xnview.db are on 1 online harddisk and even on the same partition. (I do have backups on external HD )

@ Pierre: what do you want me to do? You have the picture file as well as the pdf showing the situation when the system hung.
