I opena folder. I go fullscreen. Then esc.
I'm now in browser mode with an undocked category window.
I close undocked category window.

I don't understand your problem, obelisk. What is your expected behaviour? Please have a look at Reporting a bug: HowTo and Template.

I don't want an undocked category window

Each time I exit fullscreen there's an undocked category window floating around

Until now I couldn't reproduce your problem. The steps:
1. Start XnView (Browser is shown)
2. Hide "Categories" pane by unchecking View » Data Pane » Categories
3. Select an image and open it in fullscreen ('F' key or right click "Fullscreen")
4. Exit fullscreen by pressing 'Esc'
Actual and expected behaviour: "Categories" pane does not reappear.

- Do you use XnView MP 0.84?
- What are your exact steps?
- Do you use categories at all? Does the image that you open have categories assigned?

obelisk, could you please provide more info to reproduce and understand the problem (see questions in my previous post)?

I saw this in the past IIRC.

Please post here screenshots of
1. your layout (how XnView MP looks when you work)
2. The window from Tools | Settings | Fullscreen

Closed (Please post here in case the problem still occurs. Please provide additional info, then).

3. Exit fullscreen by pressing 'Esc'
4. "Categories" pane appears.

That's it.
Doesn't happen all the time. I haven't worked out how yet.

I've tried out the above steps 0.84 and 0.85 but the problem didn't occur: The category pane never reappeared after closing.

obelisk, could you please provide more details to reproduce the problem?
- Which type of files (JPEG, ...) do you open in viewer?
- Are there categories assigned to some of your files?
- Which layout do you use? Do you use custom layouts?
...

And today on open it popped again

On open Closed it.
Select an image and open it in fullscreen
Exit fullscreen by pressing 'Esc'

FIle opened had no categories assigned
Can't work out the layout
