XnView: MP 0.84
OS: Windows 10 - 64bit

When zooming into a binary image with high quality zoom activated, XnView crashes.

Effect: Crash (Medium)

To reproduce:
1. Set High zoom quality to "Zoom out & Zoom in" in Settings » View | View
1. Open a colour image with medium size (1000 x 1000 pixel)
2. Convert the image to black/white image using:
a. Select Image » Change colour depth"
b. In "Change color depth" dialog select (o) Binary and Dithering: Floyd Steinbarg
c. Confirm with "OK" button
3. Zoom into the image using the mouse wheel (high zoom factor, e.g. 1600%)
4. Zoom out. Repeat 3 and 4
Actual behaviour (bug): XnView crashes :bug:

Expected behaviour: Image should be zoomed in/out. No crash.

Could someone else please try to reproduce the problem using the above steps?

Note:
Using the pan tool after zooming in (e.g. 400%) helps to cause the crash quickly (occurs for me every time).

1. Open the attached 1-bit file;

2.Tools > Settings > View -- View tab -- High quality zoom -- Zoom-in and Zoom-out ;

3. Zoom to 200% --> Hand pan tool moves image;

4. Zoom to 283% [for example] --> Hand pan tool doesn't move image... :(

5. Zoom to 200% --> Hand pan tool moves image again;

At high zoom pan tool is unresponsive but program hasn't crashed.

Note: Tested on XnView MP 0.84 32-bit, if that could be a factor...

Addendum:

Testing with XnView MP 64-bit and same settings produced a split image and crash when zooming from 100% to 142%, with this error message:

The XnView MP 64-bit issue reported above also occurs with a grayscale TIFF, and relates specifically to zooming...

It also doesn't occur with a grayscale JPEG.

Would you like to split 64-bit issue off into a new thread?

I think it would be better if you opened a separate bug report with sample and instructions how to reproduce.

@Helmut: Should this issue [the original 32-bit issue] be filed under 'Fixed in next test version' as Pierre hasn't indicated that yet, has he?

Well spotted, cday. Pierre has moved this topic here. I guess he'll post the issue number, soon.

The problem occured on Win 10 64 bit. Why do you think that this bug report refers to 32-bit?

The first issue in terms of how it presented was specific to the 32-bit version, it only occured when panning above a critical zoom value.

When I later tested the 64-bit version, the problem [not necessarily identical in presentation but quite possibly the same basic issue] occured when a critical zoom value was reached without panning...

[E&OE -- better reread the threads when time...]

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 0.85 beta 1. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
