I am not good at this, so I'm not sure if this is a bug or supposed to be so.

I select paper size A4.
I select pixels as unit to see what's going on.
I leave DPI at the default 72.
I see that width x height will be 595 x 842.
I switch to cm to see that the size is A4, and back to pixels.
Looking at the preview it looks OK, low resolution.

I change DPI to 300 because I want sharper output or whatever.
The width x height will still be 595 x 842.
I switch to cm to see that the size changed to 5,04 x 7,13 cm and switch back to pixels.
The preview will look the same.
Only when I select paper size A4 again, the width x height changes to 2481 x 3507.
Is that correct or wrong?

Suggestion: a bullet in front of the last selected paper size would be nice...

DPI value will not change the pixel size if you use pixel to enter sheet size

Is "dpi" needed at all when setting output size by pixel? Is the dpi value written into the output file?

yes the dpi is used for bitmap file
