0.85: Animations (GIF, PNG) don't play at all

XnViewMP 0.85 64-bit over Win 7 64-bit.
Animation files such as animated GIF and PNG (don't have other formats here) don't work at all with new version. In browser mode, the preview pane just shows the first frame instead of the usual autoplay. In view and full-screen modes, they don't play either. I've checked that they're not disabled in options. I also tried to set a key for start/stop animation but it didn't work either when pressed (first time I tried, XMP crashed as soon as I pressed the key, but I can't reproduce the crash anymore).
I've tried with large and small animations of all kinds and origins to no avail, there's something broken here. In past versions, animations played automatically as soon as they were displayed. Restoring to 0.84 solves the problem. Videos play fine in 0.85 btw.
Oh, changing between view and full-screen advances one frame. That's all.
