Can't get any multimedia to play

Hello, I'm running XnViewMP on Ubuntu 16.04, and I can't get any videos or audio to play. Photos show up just fine. I can play videos and audio outside of XnView. Is it possible that I need a special dependency or code? Thanks for your help.

Same here:
With Mint 18.2 (same Ubuntu 16.04 base) and Manjaro
XnViewMP's multimedia playback actually
never worked under any Linux installation for me.
All gstreamer-plugins installed.

I have the gstreamer 'base', 'good', 'bad' and 'ugly' plugins installed. Also 'nice', 'libav', 'clutter', 'alsa', 'fluendo' and 'pulseaudio'.
I get this error when I run xnview from a terminal and try to open a video:
Code: Select all
(XnView:9649): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_object_ref_sink: assertion 'GST_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
(XnView:9649): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_set_state: assertion 'GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed
