"Most common" file types

In the options dialog, category "Write > File types" the user can set the file types shown for opening and saving. There's a button "Most common" for the most often used file types.
When selecting the button, many file types are checked, including "Amiga IFF", Portable Bitmap, Portable Pixmap and some more. Instead, I'd expect only:
- GIF
- PNG
- JPG
- BMP
- TIF
- PCX
to be checked on a Windows platform. This will increase user comfort especially when saving files, since the user can choose the format in a short list.
On Unix the list of most common formats may differ, probably we need different lists per platform for the most common formats.

Right, I agree.

Only these formats?

I agree that list should be relative to OS. My file types match Helmut's list, except PCX.

Ok, and perhaps by default??

Yes, that would be better.

Thank you all for your comments. Looks as if we all agree.
Three things left:
1.) What should we do with PCX? List it or not?
marsh things that PCX is not a common format, and I also think that PCX is rarely. So it should not be part of the list.
2.) What should the list for UNIX look like? Perhaps:
JPG
PNG
GIF
TIF
PBM
PBX
?
Not sure, here, I don't have Linux or similar. Perhaps TGA is used on Sun Workstations?
3.) Is a third list for MAC needed?
No clue, here. Perhaps a MAC user can tell.

I run Windows, and these are all I ever select:
- GIF
- PNG
- JPG
- BMP
- TIF

I think that we must add tga because it's a very used format on windows

I've just searched all my fixed drives and found 3 TGA files in about 100.000 files. Are you sure that .tga is important on Windows?
I think ".ras (Sun raster files)" might be important on Sun workstations, but I'm just guessing.
Not any---

Hello Pierre !
- Worse than Helmut : here, in two PCs and approx. 70,000 files, I didn't find out ONE *.tga, nothing !

Kind regards,

Same here: I use only JPG, TIF, PNG, GIF and BMP

… same, plus
*.ico, I like to draw my own ones
- Pierre could make a convenient synthesis with
this suggestion, as its full version…

I agree.
But perhaps a problem for users that don't see TGA as output format the first time!!
