XnView Software

Only one file of different HEIF sample files could be open with XN-View 2.42 and HEIF-Plugin.
Maybe the new HEIF-Plugin is not fully compatible with all HEIF-files standards.

I found some HEIF sample files from users in the internet, but not all images could be opened.

same here. i tried some examples from the post viewtopic.php?f=60&t=32568&p=145073 but xnview 2.42 was not able toopen them.

@heiamki: I tried the sample files in the forum post and only one file "https://nokiatech.github.io/heif/conten ... 0x640.heic" could be opened with XnView 2.42.

it seems that there is different heif, camel.heic can't be opened here

In my case, i suspect an other cause for this issue.

The new Heif plugin seems to be not used by xnview : I extracted the heif_x32.zip file content into plugins folder.
But, event i restarted the app and the computer, i can't see the HEIF plugin in the tool "Information about modules" (all the others, jp2000 ....
openjp2.dll) are present but no heif plugin is present in the app. In that case, it is normal that the Xnview is unable to open heif format files.

All my heif format files, could be opened with the standard HEIF JS viewer from Nokia (please see https://github.com/nokiatech/heif/tree/gh-pages/js)

Of course, i used is latest version 2.42 (x64) on windows 10 pro.

for the pictures, i tried one from iphone and several homemade photos (using this tutorial http://jpgtoheif.com/, and ffmpeg)
All the pictures opened with the Nokia JS viewer.

I can't open heif pictures in xn-view 2.42 because the plugin heif is not loaded by the app, not because the pictures are bad.

iPhone rear camera .HEIC heif pictures open in XnView for me even though heif.dll is not shown in Info>Plug-Ins Information list.
(I have reported front camera photos not opening, in a separate thread.)

I tried with http://heictojpg.com/ with homemade photos. I have errors.

WIth iphone heic's photos: it works.

I have ios 11.0.2 on my iphone

But none with xnview and all with the JS Viewer.

is it possible to use Xn-view 2.42 to convert pictures from jpg to heif ?

I had a copy of the draft standard, and stupidly forgot to save it. It seems to have been completely scrubbed from the web in preparation for the final standard release later this month. That might have helped troubleshoot some issues.

Just the file grid_960x640.heic (derived grig) is decoded, but displayed wrong - all images in one frame.

it seems that there is some differences between examples from nokia, and files from Apple
