Preview of filter doesn't obey selection [performance]

Preview for filter shows preview for the whole image, even if there's selection. After clicking OK it applies only to selection, so the problem is only with preview.
It might seem minor, but I just wanted to use a filter (gaussian blur) on small part of big image. I had to wait about 5 seconds for preview, as it tried to apply filter to whole, big image (8 mpix or so) to visualize it, and after clicking ok, it was done almost instantly (0,2 mpix selection).
I'm talking here about inline preview, i.e. unchecked "apply to image".
