Open images in hidden folders using Linux

I would love to be able to open images that are stored in hidden folders.
In Linux, they start with a dot, so that looks something like this:
/home/t_matze/.config/variety/Favorites
So far, when I try to open one of these pictures with XnView MP, it only shows a blank page. Also navigating to that directory is not possible, because XnView MP can't "see" it.
Could you please implement this feature?
