Checkerboard Options

In the settings we have the option to use/not use the checkerboard for transparent backgrounds in the View window.
But I would like to have the checkerboard in the View window, but NO checkerboard in the Preview Panel (which I keep below the tree on the left). This way I could see it with and without simultaneously.
Actually, it would be nice to have a toolbar button for the View window to toggle the checkerboard on and off, that way we could easily see how the transparency looks for any transparent images (like png files).
