0.88: EXIF image sizes not updated after change

OS: Ubuntu 16.04
Effect: EXIF width and height fields are not updated after edit
A lossless transformation from the browser tab correctly exchanges image width and height in EXIF.
A 90° rotation from an image view tab however does not change the previous EXIF width and height.
Other size modifications such as a 45° rotation or a crop also miss to update the EXIF size fields.
To reproduce:
1. Check the EXIF width and height of an arbitrary JPEG.
2. Open, rotate 90°, save.
3. Recheck the EXIF data.
Actual behaviour (bug): Width and height in EXIF do not represent the actual image size.
Expected behaviour: EXIF width and height should update after size modifications.
