Problem converting to GBR

I have a bunch of .jpg files I want to convert to GIMP brush (.gbr) format. Everything looks like it works. However all of the resulting files cannot be used by the GIMP. They all give the same error "Invalid header data" when attempting to open them.
I'm using XnConvert Version 1.76 - x64 (Jan 16 2018) - Libformat version 7.16 and GIMP 2.8.14 on OSX (10.13.3).
