Apply image/map tools to view (not saving) images

Is it possible to set a given image/map operation to a set of images without actually saving new versions?
That is, just apply, for example, image/map/automatic level for viewing.

In the viewer, I think you would have to open each image in its own tab, then apply the desired operation individually to each image, and then select each tab in turn, unless I'm missing something. [

However, you should be able to get at least part way to what you are looking for using
Tools > Batch convert... where you could load a set of images, set up an action or actions, and then use the preview facility as a viewer to step through the images with the action(s) applied. If you then exit Batch convert without initiating a conversion, the images loaded will be unchanged...
