XnView Default Sorting

Folders containing images (screenshots)

Whilst using Windows Explorer, double clicking a file will launch XnViewMP and the image is displayed.

When I use the [Next] button,so as to go to the next images, then I would expect XnViewMP to display the next file in the Explorer list.
Instead XnViewMP jumps to 'some' (random?) image in that folder.

So, example, folder contains images like this:

Code: Select all

Name Date Time
00AJdsfP97uO09fldzBz.png 02072018 100821
00LUWO2jFwOKa56kTr2O.png 02072018 105327
01okt0lYrDb1NTh6ZDG5.png 02072018 110719
01Uk0Cd8TZpLFNCI3GDq.png 02072018 111033 <--
01vLBff4C4Zlthn6QYCJ.png 02072018 113508
01wWzbzC5Jo2cPQGBSFC.png 02072018 133339
01Yte8hDrQslgi0QQuan.png 02072018 133439
02BSJnOg5y2rX8fb2Bfl.png 02072018 133518
02vK4kOyR9ui5mQWX62O.png 02072018 133643

I open the 4th image, double clicking. XnViewMP when using Next File will not go to file 5 but picks some other file.

Probably I then need to:
1. open the image
2. launch XnViewMP browser
3. set view to thumbnails and details
4. do a resort based on date time
5. launch the viewer again (2nd tab)
then it will follow the date/time sequence.

Is it not possible to skip to next file based on date/time sort in the -viewer-, i.e. without having to use XnViewMP browser (go thru the steps above)?

Thanks!

I have the same problem.

XnView is not able to use the sorting of the windows explorer.

I have made an example video:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/s6pgjosz1p336 ... r.mp4?dl=0

Here you have the link to the files:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5aa2bwxqi8p77 ... w.rar?dl=0

It would be great, if XnView can show pictures like sorted in the windows explorer.

Why you cant use same sorting as in the Windows explorer?

Other programs can do it: Picasa, Basic Photo Viewer (Windows Store)

Up front: I don't use the other programs, so, sorry, I can not judge about them.

The thing is: when I double click an image from a series, e.g. picture 3 in the below series
picture-01.jpg
picture-02.jpg
picture-03.jpg
picture-04.jpg
picture-05.jpg
picture-06.jpg

and I click on 'next' XnView usually does not show nr.04, the nr.05, etc.
XnView will show a different image and I don't know what sequence it follows, to be honest.
so I exit and double click the next one.

hey mrwul,

my last post was the answer to the xnview author, not to you.

I also don't want to use the other programs. I posted it because it is a example, that other programs can do that.

Hope they can integrate it.

@christiandull :

In the browser you have View > Sort by which provides alternative orders, does this not provide sort as in Explorer?

I tried now the "Sort by folder" in XnView. But it is only alphabetically (and there are differences with small letters - not the same sort as in the folder) and also not change if i change the explorer to sort by date.

"Sort by folder" ??

You are looking at the browser View > Sort by options?

I don't really understand, but in any case I'm not the best person to you help as I normally just use Name in the browser sort options.

What I meant: when you double click an image (launching XnViewMP) and use the 'next' button to go to the next image,
what sort order is used -then-?
In that mode, is the sort order by modified date, created date, name ... what?

I am not talking about the browser mode. In browser mode (explorer mode), I agree, you have View->Sort By.

Thanks!

it's the same sort order as the browser mode
