Program hangs sometimes when it's started by opening an image.

If I open an image from the windows explorer by double clicking, sometimes the Xnview MP window will not open. Looking at the task manager, the process is created and cpu use for it remains at around 20%, which is a lot higher than it normally is when an image opens normally, but there is no way to switch to that task, and checking with process explorer reveals that while the process started, a window was not created for it, so switching to it is impossible, it's necessary to kill the process and try again.

PNG images seem to cause this more consistently, specially when they have transparency.

I don't recall when exactly it started happening, but it has happened since at least 0.91.

Yes, it's 0.92, system is Windows 8.1.

I looked for a log, but there wasn't any in my temp folder, I guess because it didn't actually crash, is there a way to log everything the program does?

and which format do you have in the folder that contains the opened images?

It's not always the same folder, sometimes it's a folder with many other non-image files, sometimes it's just a folder with PNGs and JPGs.

Edit: Just to rule out it being a weird file in the folder, it just happened while opening a PNG image with no transparency, in a folder that had only other PNG images, 242 images at 1920x1080, so it probably wasn't because the folder is too populated.

could you try on a folder with only this PNG file, and one other PNG?

I just tried to open different images in a folder with other images, with one other image, and a folder with many other images, 50 times each, and the program didn't hang once.
However, after closing the window, sometimes the xnview process would remain open with no window visible, and high CPU usage, which is basically the same thing as the bug I initially reported, but at file close instead of open. CPU usage is hovering at around 20% for the process. If I try to open another image while the process is hung up another process is created and immediately terminated, without a window ever becoming visible.

I have disabled that option, and so far I haven't had the problem show up again.
Will update if it happens again, thanks.

Edit: It happened again even after the change, a folder with 247 PNG images.

If you start XnView's browser, and open an image, you have not this problem?

Hello from 2022! Have the same problem with latest 0.99.7 64bit.
I have a big folder with a lot of downloaded images. And no one open without long hanging (20 seconds for example)
Tried "disable settings>View>Misc>Read" with no result.
If I start XnView's browser, and open an image - there is no problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

This folder contains 34 jpg files, 2 png and 1 gif, but this this junk Download folder 64Gb size, ~341 files and 40 folders. In total it have ~ 1350 folders and subfolders and ~15K files in it. I tried to transfer all my 37 files in new dir and they open instantly. Maybe XnView trying to build some type of directory tree?
