Tools -> Options -> General -> “Open one view per selected image”
Tools -> Options -> General -> Startup -> “Only one Instance”

“Only one Instance”
[x] activated: Only one instance of XnView is allowed to be running at the same time.
[ ] de-activated: You can launch more than one instance of the program.
“Open one view per selected image”
[x] activated: XnView is not allowed to open a specific file more than once at the same time.
[ ] de-activated: XnView is allowed to open the same file in several instances of its viewer window at once.
