Companion File Deletion

Although there is an available tick box under Settings/File list => Companion files linked for delete action, which in my case is unticked. Why when I delete a companion file (ORF) does the companion jpeg get deleted too ? surely the tick box is there to link the two files both ways (jpeg delete + companion ORF or ORF Delete + companion jpeg). I read the tick box to mean if unticked, I can delete either file without it deleting the other. Although I am now using ver 093, it was the same for 092.
