how to replace/overwrite file?

Post by sikorumbe »

Hi Guys,
was just wondering if there is "replace/overwrite" file dialog when xnview detecting the same file ?
Rather than just create another one and add "copy" into the file name?

Thank you.

I have the same Problem.
When i copy Files and past form Folder 1 to folder 2 to find the add files in folder 2 (merge it) it only copy the files.
Normal in Finder or Explorer it ask me would like to replace the file?

In XnView MP Version 0.93.1 it only make a copy with the extension name "... - Copy.JPG"
In the Settings "General -> File Operations" i have disable "add copy for duplicates", but it always copy the File / Pictures.
For example form "DSC04812.JPG" to the name "DSC04812 - Copy.JPG"

Please fix it.

Many thanks

when you drag&drop or Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V of a file in same folder, 'copy - ' will be added, no replace dialog is shown...

Hi,
So is there a way to replace existing file (without having adding _copy.jpg) ?

Kindly guide me.

Thank you.

Up until now I had been exclusively using classic XNView, which does ask when copying. This post is 4 years old, are there any plans to add this functionality? Without it, MP is not nearly as useful for file operations.

Thanks!

standard behaviour of file managers

to reproduce
0. have 2 files with the same names in 2 folders
1. CTRL+C in one folder
2. CTRL+V in another folder
file will be copied and renamed without any warnings, so now there are 2 files in target folder

expected behaviour
Overwrite dialog shall appear
