Two things I would like to do

1. In the thumbnail browser, customize the information shown in the status bar, so that when I click on an image, I can see its date at the bottom.

2. In the thumbnail browser, XnView is able to launch non-image files, including text files and movies. This makes me nervous: I could accidentally launch a virus this way. Is there any way to make sure that XnView will never launch non-image files?

1. I don't think that's possible.
2. Tools → Settings… → File list → Custom filter → All other files → Open with: None
