Bug? Category assigning doesn´t work reliably

Hi,

I recently started working with XnView MP 0.94.3. I have thousands of photos, 6.000 of them starred in Picasa. In Picasa I tagged all of these 6.000 with a word and did the same with pictures from albums. I was actually so happy to have found a solution to keep all the tags in another program - ready for the big restart.

But - XnView displays the tags (IPCT-IIM + XMP) but doesn not assign categories. Or at least only in a very few cases, even though there is actually no difference between the tags. How can I force the XnView (F5 isn´t helpful) to read the information of every file carefully and to update the categories?

Thanks a lot for your support

Eva

In order to make xnviewmp read IPTC or XMP keywords, you must enable the first checkbox in "Tools, Settings, Metadata" (Import ...) and unmark the second one (export).
Then, in the next Settings screen, (Catalog), use the "Add folders" button. Subfolders will be read at the same time, and with my PC, it takes about 1 min for thousand Photos for xnviewmp to read keywords and fill categories and add folders names in the table shown. (a database is built = xnview.db file)

Sometimes, it happens that some keywords are not read ... (After categories filtering, neither thumbnails nor photos are shown) , you can delete faulty folders in the table above, and "add folder' again ...

When finshed, un mark "import" checkbox, and check "export" to be able to add new keywords into photos when you mark categories.

Dear Michel,

thank you very, very much! All checkboxes you mentioned were already marked, all folders (a lot....) displayed (in the catalog section), but many of them with only 0KB.
So I started the process manually, and it finally worked - still far away from perfect but MUCH better! Now I only need to solve my other problem (with Pierre´s help).

Thanks again, have a nice evening,

Eva
