hi all,


first:
i moved to a new flat and are not connected to the holy internet. (for now)
so i cannot research the forum for articles which may be doublettes of my following posts.
i'm commiting the following posts from a place, where i can't research the forum as long as i could do from home :-)
so please excuse any "doublettes", if so.


when in browser-mode, pressing enter on "thumbA" will show the "pictureA" (in fullscreen mode on my computer).
now, when moving through some other pictures with pg-down/pg-up, end pressing ENTER on, say, "pictureX", browser-mode comes back again, with the focus on "thumbX".
this is really nice, but it could be nicer ;-)

pressing ESC instead of ENTER should lead to the last thumb (here: "thumbA") the focus where on, before the user moved through other pictures.
so the user could use ESC/ENTER as a marker.

this is also useful, if the user presses POS1 or END in viewing-mode and cannot return to the original picture/thumb, because he didn't remember the filename or whatsoever...

I disagree. "Esc" means always "Cancel" or "Close", but for "Enter" key you can configure various operations (Tools > Options > General > Switching mode). So there is not always two ways for canceling. This means that having different behaviour for "Enter" and "Cancel" does not make too much sense.

ok, i try to explain it another way :-)

enter means: yes (show the picture in browser mode, the focus is on)

ESC means: no (don't show the picture in browser mode, the focus is on, but return to the last state (before entering the fullscreen-mode)

see, if you press ESC, this means something like "abort", which is a correct behaviour, because the user is not interested in seeing the picture, where the focus is on now.
this is the normal behaviour in xnview now.

if the user presses ENTER instead of ESC, he (until now, only me :-) is interessted (assuming, he knows about the feature) that the focus will be on the picture he now has the focus on. which is very useful.

until now, as i see, the functions of ESC and ENTER are the same. as you wrote, they shouldnt.

maybe anyone else has a better idea of implementing this feature?
actually, i'm don't really care, which button/key i have to press, but in this case, ENTER is my choice. maybe there is a better key/button to return to the picture where the focus is on?
