Browser not showing transparent png files correctly

Hi,

I can't figure this one out for the life of me. I have XnView on 2 Macbook's.. 1 of them works fine but the other doesn't. The issue is that I have lots of white icons in .png format with transparent backgrounds.

I'm expecting to see some background color behind the images so I can identify them - but all I get is a white block. The images display correctly in the viewer tab - so it's just the thumbnail view that's not working.

I have 'use alpha channel' option checked but that doesn't seem to do anything. I've also rebuilt the thumbnails many times so it's not that either.. and since I have another Macbook (running the same/latest version) which works fine on the same set of icons - it MUST be a setting. I just can't see if after going back and forth between them.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate it.

Hopefully the screenshots will show this problem best

Sorry, I guess I didn't have notifications turned on because I didn't know someone replied to this message.

Here's a picture from XNView on another Macbook. Same images and same version of XNView. This is what I'm trying to achieve:

Not sure if it helps, but here's an example .png file.. nothing special - just a white icon with transparent background.

Both computers have this set to "Lossless (ZIP)" - although I've also tried disabling the catalog and no difference

That would be the obvious choice - I agree.. but, checked/unchecked - no difference. Including rebuilding thumbnails after each check

The last post gave me an idea.. I copied the /.config/xnview folder from the working mac to the one with the issue and that did it. I guess maybe this file was corrupted somehow..

anyway, looks like it's working now!

Hello,
I have the same problem and tried to check "Thumbnail > Use alpha channel" on and off, rebuild thumbnails, delete the folder from the catalog. Every time the thumbnails were generated opaque. I've attached the screen and the ini file.

Btw, for svg files I have transparency on thumbnails, regardless "Use alpha channel" is on or off.

the PNG thumbnails use thumbnail list view background color, do you have tried to 'rebuild thumbnail'?
