How to keep photo quality after batch resizing?

Hi, first time user of this program today, and first post in this forum. Loving the fact that there is batch resizing available which fits my needs!

So my question is if there is a way to preserve image quality after doing a batch resize in XnView? I don't see the option anywhere. All results of my resized images have their qualities reduces and become grainy unfortunately.

If you are using XnView Classic, rather than XnView MP or XnConvert, and the Batch Processing > Resize transformation:

o On the General tab the compression used when saving can be set using the Options button to the right of the Output file format window;

o On the Transformation tab you can select and experiment with alternative Resample methods.

If not resolved please provide further details.

Oh man, I'm sorry I just realized I posted in XnView Classic. I have XnView MP. Would it be the same steps? I see a settings button in Output and under the JPEG tab I can push the button from 80 to 100. But I'm not sure if that will do it.

Saving a JPEG at 100% will normally result in a noticeable increase in file size, but not necessarily a very visible increase in image quality, so possibly the problem lies elsewhere?

Can you give more information on the input file format and the Actions you have selected?

Are your input files possibly Camera RAW?

If so, please check on the Settings tab the Load Format Settings setting for the Camera RAW image size selected...

So for example, I select two images (JPG) that are at 1067x1600. I select batch convert and create two actions.

First action is in Mode: Fit with resize to 416x624 (I need 624 for it to display correctly on my webpage) with Keep Ratio, Gamma Correction, and Follow Orientation checked. Resample is Hanning.

Second action is Canvas Resize to 624x624 with a white background color. Keep Ratio and Follow Orientation are checked.

Nothing was changed in Output.

Edit: As far as I'm aware they are not Camera RAW.

Isn't the quality problem likely mainly due to the fact that you are reducing a 1067x1600 image to 416x624 pixels?

You might obtain some benefit from experimenting with alternative resampling methods, I can't give advice on that but there should be some guidance online, and I know that xntriq has posted guidance on the forum, but possibly it would be easiest to simply test alternatives if you haven't already done so.

You might also, very speculatively and counter intuitively, obtain some benefit from applying a filter such as the blur filter.
