I do a lot of work on old scans and have to resize canvas all the time.

It would help me big time if Xn-View would remember the background color, so I don't have to chose it every single time.

Also having a hotkey for "Set Select Ratio A4" would improve my workflow significantly.

There is actually some functionality available to save/restore repeatedly used settings. When in the Canvas resize or Resize dialog, set your desired width, height, background color, position, etc. Now before hitting OK to apply your setup to your current image click the save preset icon at the top of the dialog, enter a meaningful name and click OK to save your preset for future use. Presets are stored in your xnview.ini.

Additionally, you can edit the file ResizePresets.txt with a text editor to add, remove, or modify any of the existing size entries.
