Whatever it is...
I don't like it being mandatory.
Please make it on option, Pierre.

There is an option, the 'Face' tag will not be filled by default

Hello.
What "face tag", please?
I am talking about the super category that shows as "People" for me.
It's new in the new version.
It's just beyond "Rating" and "Colour Label".
All of them 3 I have no use at all, and best would like to disable from view.
Moreover I do understand that "Rating" and "Colour Label" are special properties
as you can give a quality to them ("Excellent" etc.).
But "People" is just binary, and if I needed that I could very simple define
a category for that by myself.

To sum up:
It would be nice to allow the user to disable at least "People" super category
from view, best all three mentioned.
Greetings

a category for that by myself.
Names of people that have been recognized by softwares such as Picasa, Microsoft Windows Gallery (maybe others ?) are written in some XMP metadata.
I have more than 100 different person names in my photos

"People" is a header that will contain the names that XnViewMP has read from the metadata for each photo, and it is intended to provide filters for these names

Thanks for the explanation.

However this seems a very special feature that won't be used for as much users.

I propose to not show "People" in the category list mandatory but to show it optional.
(As well as "Rating" and "Colour Label").

Excuse me, People, its a rather popular category for many photographers!
When you have a lot of individuals or competitors then facial recognition software will populate these categories, however there is a wide range of "Areas" that have been defined in the XMP standards for quite a while! Best to have a read maybe https://exiftool.org/TagNames/XMP.html

Yes, you will be right.

Nevertheless there will be users who don't need it/ or don't need it THIS way.

And for them it would be nice to have that MANDATORY.

All I'm suggesting to change it to OPTIONAL (to prevent XnViewMP be "messed up"
with things one don't need - to make it personal).
The choice doesn't need to be about existence, but about showing.

As mentioned the same with "Rating" and "Colour Label".
(All my photos are excellent and I only do in red :D :D )

Some basic features are expected to be there. Unnecessary changes lead to unnecessary new problems. Just imagine all the inexperienced new users, loosing the colour label filter by accident ... All the new traffic on this forum ...

Well, the "People" feature is changed right now - as it has become "unnecessarily" (your words) new in the last version.

And to my understanding that "People" entry is not a "basic feature" at all.

I am talking about an option (default = show) to hide the mentioned three entries.

Users like me, who take XnViewMP for general categorizing, not only images
will hide it - the other won't ever notice.

Where is the problem if letting XnViewMP being customizable?

To sum it up again:

Having an option to hide the three bold marked "main categories"
would make it cleaner for users like me.
