When I use the IPTC Editor to write initial IPTC, this information displays correctly in other programs.

Now, here is the huge problem, and this has affected thousands of my images before I caught it --- when I edit the IPTC again, whether to add new information or to correct information, this new information will not be reflected in other programs.

The new information displays correctly in XnView; but, in all other programs, only the original information is displayed, as if I had never edited it.

I have checked "Settings" and I cannot see anything there that would fix this problem.

Is this behavior due to something I am not doing correctly or is this a problem with the XnView IPTC editor ?

It scares me to think of the thousands of images I have out there with wrong information.

Is it the same version of Xnviewmp?
In last version, edit iptc has changed.

Can you check with ExifTool tab in information pane?
In this tab you will see if iptc metadata are correct, and also xmp metadata.
If "another software" reads first xmp, and in "options" tab, only Iptc is selected for Xnviewmp, empty xmp will be displayed... or something like this...

I am using version 0.96.5 August-17-2020 and this same version was used on initial writing of IPTC and also on later edits.
XnViews other metadata tabs, such as EXIF Tool, XMP, etc., are displaying the correct edited information.

What made it evident to me that other programs were not reflecting the edited IPTC was, when I posted a few images on a web forum, instead of displaying the correct edited IPTC, the images were displaying the initial IPTC prior to corrections.
This caused me to check IPTC in some of my other programs and they were also displaying the uncorrected version.

It is as if the initial IPTC is somehow permanently written to the file and the subsequent edits are not over-writing it.
It is a mystery to me.

I've been working with metadata and xnviewmp for years, and I can't understand how you can get such a result .
I think there is a mistake somewhere.
Since V0.98 , "edit iptc" and "edit xmp" are now different windows, and maybe that will prevent from doing mistakes ?

could you send me a sample file with metadata not recognized?
