Ghostscript and ai/eps format

I installed ghostscript to make Xnview MP work with .ai and .eps format, but everytime I open a ai/eps file, Xnview opens automatically the browser and just shows the last folder that it was opened in the broswer, not the file. How can I make Xnview to show the file, like with the other formats, and not the browser?

In Windows 10 1909 with XnView MP 0.98.2 64-bit and GS 9.53.3 64-bit installed:

I can open an EPS file using File > Open... but not by double-clicking on the file, the format evidently isn't associated with 'MP, and I haven't investigated that.

In Linux Mint 19.3 with XnView MP 0.98.2 and whichever earlier GS version is currently installed, I am unable to open EPS or PDF files: multiple recent unfortunate changes in GS have introduced incompatibilities between software versions, so you may possibly need to install an earlier or later GS version than the one you are using, depending on your operating system and the XnView MP version you are using.

[Note that when viewing PS and PDF files, but not EPS files, it is normally necessary to increase the DPI value at which the image is rasterised from the default value of 72 in, in the viewer, File > Format settings... > Read tab.]
