I can reproduce this always, on Linux and Windows. On Windows also with the previous version of XnView MP.

Thanks to your detailed description I can reproduce the problem.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 0.98.4. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

Version 0.98.4 does not crash, this looks to be fixed.

On the other hand, it seems that it still does not really work, the slideshow does not show colour labels. (Same with rating.)

Tried on Windows 10 and Ubuntu (appimage).

This works as expected now, ver. 0.99.0 and 0.99.1, looks to be fixed, thank you!

(Being away from home, I have only checked the appimage in an Ubuntu virtual machine on a Win10 laptop.)
