How would I do that? My screen is large but not high, so I would like to have it all from top to bottom, first the folder tree, then the thumbnails (just 3 or 4 columns), then the preview (as large as possible).

I suppose I can not have the preview in some independent viewer window?

I cannot believe that any available layout just puts any two of the three on top of each other, and fiddling around with "Layout - Free" didn't gave me the desired result either.

And, is there really no help file, or am I just too dumb to find it?

I see now that I overlooked a very visible setting. I had tried some of the View-Layout settings, but then had given up, not realizing that 7 and 8 are indeed what I want: I had thought, from the mini symbols, that they represented an even less useful layout, with FOUR different panes each.
