Gaussian filter takes very long

Can we make sure filter is not applied immediately? May be have a button "apply"?
Not a bug but huge inconvenience. I use gaussian filter 13x13 very often to blur portion of the image. Next time I remove selection and open filter dialog to select different filter previously used one is automatically applied. In case of gaussian 13x13 it takes forever, especially on large images
BTW, I'll be glad to help to optimize Gaussian filter implementation.
