Hi,

Recently my HDD has stopped working and I lost some of my data.
I did have a backup but I lost last 2 weeks of work.

I was wondering whether it is possible to somehow extract thumbnails or file's paths from Thumb.db or XnView.db in AppData folder?
That would help me to retrieve some of my images through reverse image search or possibly search my other portable drives using filename. The folder lost consisted of selected images from my other hard drives or Google Images/Internet.

I tried to use Thumbcache Viewer program which can analyze files that contain thumbnails/image cache but it returns error when giving it Thumb.db or XnView.db saying they are not recognized.

you can use 'DB browser SQLITE' to view filenames stored in the catalog

I can also see there is data column with BLOB object which I assume holds the thumbnail. Do you think it is possible to somehow retrieve the image? I did try some software but when opening it throws error that it cannot be opened.

Not easily, because the BLOB contains infos + thumbnail
