Preview thumbnails are not rotated

Original image (landscape orientation, rotated 90° left): image on thumbnail rotated 90° left, full size image rotated 90° right, EXIF orientation upper-right (6)
Select: JPEG transform, rotate based on EXIF, reset EXIF orientation
Resulting image: image on thumbnail in portrait orientation (rotated correctly), full size image rotated 90° right, EXIF orientation upper-left (1)
The Image, considering the rotation and orientation of the JPEG, did not change (rotated 90° right)
The orientation did not reset
Image should display in thumbnail in same orientation as preview and as full view
it would be nice if the orientation preview was displayed in the JPEG transform dialog
If I select JPEG rotation and didn't press any rotation button, but will check "reset EXIF orientation", the thumbnail will not change, but the Image will become the correct orientation (portrait) but thumbnails will remain in landscape orientation
If I select (thumbnail rotated 90° left, image rotated 90° right) rotate thumbnail 90° right to make it portrait orientation, it will make image upside-down (the thumbnail rotates 180°)
What I need: - display thumbnails in the same orientation as Image, rotate thumbnails and images simultaneously, reset EXIF orientation

why some files show rotation icon and others don't show despite the fact that they contain Exif orientation?
how do i fix them? only those that are broken
what is the "the white rectangle located right-bottom inside the gray rectangle" icon on thumbnails?
the fact that XnView doesn't update thumbnail when rotate is a bug!

This overlay icon indicates that XnView's browser is displaying the embedded preview/thumbnail retrieved from a JPEG file.
You can change this behavior by deactivating
Use embedded thumbnail in
Tools →
Settings… →
Browser →
Thumbnail →
Misc.

How to fix
IMG_5092.JPG with XnView MP:
- Select the thumbnail for IMG_5092.JPG in browse mode.
- Go to Tools → JPEG lossless transformations → Reset EXIF orientation field.
- Go to Tools → Metadata → EXIF thumbnail - Rotate 90°.

i have many files, and some are oriented left, some are right, and those which are landscape, i don't want to touch
why the rotation icon is not displayed if Exif orientation tag is present?
is this correct that it does not update thumbnail and only rotates it? is it rotated the same lossless-way as the image or just switching flag? what if it is broken or contains something different? is they created with the same dimensions as they was before? and what was the first time, before any "before"?

The icon is displayed if
Rotate images according to EXIF orientation tag is activated and
Use embedded thumbnail is disabled:
- [ ] Rotate images according to EXIF orientation tag
[ ] Use embedded thumbnail
- [ ] Rotate images according to EXIF orientation tag
[×] Use embedded thumbnail
- [×] Rotate images according to EXIF orientation tag

I don't think this behavior is user friendly - at least not for me. I have files from a camera that does not add exif orientation. I turned them clockwise with XnV from landscape to portrait (pref: change orientation only if possible). ExifTool shows that orientation and the images are displayed that way (pref: turn images according to exif orientation). But in browser view they are still displayed in landscape orientation, no matter whether thumbnails are deactivated or not.
Edit: I just noticed that the files lost the exif orientation through uploading. I cannot post the images here ("too big").

I "converted" the image with XnV (same file format), this file is displayed in browser rotated.

It is too confusing. No matter whether thumbnails are activated or not, XnV should turn both browser view and image view according to exif orientation if that pref. is set.

Orientation "Rotate 90 CW"
is orientation. Please, re-read my post. I wrote that uploading them to the host removed orientation. That's why I added the screenshots of ExifTool.
