PNG text / script tag not preserved

Hi,
I am using PNG images of code blocks that have the text of the code embedded in the tEXt chunk of the PNG image.
When these images are first loaded, the properties shows correctly the text under SCRIPT heading.
Upon any editing, this information is no longer in the recently saved version of the file.
Is there a setting or special process to preserve this information ?
Or is this an error on the programs part?
