XnView: MP Version 0.99.7 64bits (Jan 13 2022)
OS: Windows 10 - 64-bit

Effect: XnView displays error: File can't be loaded!

XnView displays error: File can't be loaded! when attempting to load file. Windows paint 3d opens and displays the file properly.

To reproduce:
1. Double click on .jpg file.
Actual behaviour (bug): XnView displays error: File can't be loaded! :bug:

Expected behaviour: File is opened and displayed.

Attachments: File is too large for this post, but the names of the files are "[ZyX] Tsuki - Possesion [Uncensored]_683858-0420.jpg" to "[ZyX] Tsuki - Possesion [Uncensored]_683858-0429.jpg" (10 files in this particular folder, though there are other folders with the same problem).

it seems that you have a problem in your registry entries for .jpg

How do I fix this problem?
Also, why does this only affect a small number of .jpg files?

Make a copy of one of the JPEG files, place it directly in your user's home folder, and then rename it to: test.jpg

Does it open when you double-click it now?

My hunch is that there are some invisible or visible characters somewhere along the directory path and/or file names, or possibly even within the EXIF metadata.

I made a copy of the file, put it on my desktop since I don't know where my user home folder is, and I renamed it to test.jpg. The file still won't open.
This should at least eliminate the possibility that there is a special character in the file name and path though.

I do not know how to send a sample file to someone.
Since I have no choice, I have uploaded the image to <removed since I shouldn't post it at all>.
Imgur changed the file from .jpg to .png, but xnview *still* can't open the file as a .png, which means this file isn't fixed by converting it to a different file type.
My apologies for the lewdness of the image. It is mature rated.

If you can explain to me how to send you this .jpg file, I can send it privately.

My theory on the problem is that xnview doesn't support opening animated .jpg or .png files.

I apologize for directly linking the path to these lewd images, but I don't know how else to do this.
The place I downloaded these images from is https://e-hentai.org/g/683858/6724854080/ .
The erroring images are 420-429 which the first comment states "are APNGs so use firefox/opera or install the plugin on chrome.".
Make absolutely certain you download the image as original source or you'll just get a small snapshot of the first image.

XNViewMPUser has indicated, in posts later deleted as redundant, that the files can't be emailed for legal reasons...

There are several free ways to generate a file like the ones causing a problem.
https://ezgif.com/apng-maker is one such place.

I used this web site to generate a very small apng file which I will attach here. This file can't be opened by xnviewmp, and it is in png format.

Upon examining the files on the linked image site in notepad, I think they are all .png files that have been renamed to .jpg. Since the apng in .png can't be opened it xnviewmp, it follows that renaming the file to .jpg won't help since the file format is still the same.
It is strange to do this, but please try renaming the uploaded .png file to .jpg to ensure .jpg files (that are actually .png apng format) can also be opened properly.
