Hello to all,

The basics:
XnView MP Windows version 0.99.7 64-bit
Windows 10 Home

This problem is not specific to this latest build; I had already noticed it in at least the previous version as well.

Recipe for the problem:

1) Use either RawTherapee or Affinity Photo to process a photo file (I haven't tested in other programs).
2) Add keywords to the file while in RT or AP and export a jpeg (thus, the keywords are written into the jpg file by either of the two programs)
3) Open XnView MP
4) Highlight said jpeg, then >View>Update catalog from files
5) Go to XnView's Categories Filter and click on any of the jpeg's keywords
6) Result: Two thumbnails for the jpeg file will be visible (both of which are "functional", e.g., performing a right click>"Open containing folder" on either of the thumbnails will take you to the folder containing the jpeg)
7) Notes: This is NOT a situation where one of the thumbnails is for the jpeg and the other for the original RT or AP file. Both thumbnails indicate only the jpeg file. The issue remains after restarting XnView MP and after restarting the computer.

in 'Settings>Catalog' do you use a base path?

Yes. "Base path of your pictures" is set to C:(...)\SkyDrive\Pictures\.

The fact that there is a base path is indeed something new. I set that recently (upstream of noticing this problem) to try to get XnView to not catalog the entire computer.

'base path' is not for that, it's when you use same database on multiple computers. you can use Settings>Catalog>Exclude
But it's not normal that you have a file twice. You can reproduce that adding a keyword in RT add the file twice in XnView?

Yes. Before posting I went through both programs and indeed this happens with jpegs out of RT as well.

What I will do is rebuild the catalog without an assigned base path (learn something new everyday! ) then retest to see if the issue is still there. Indeed I had never noticed this before assigning a base path.

So, I:

• let XnView rebuild the catalog (via deletion of "XnView.db" and "Thumb.db") with no base path assigned at Settings>Catalog;

• took two test photos;

• developed one in RawTherapee, assigning two keywords while still in RT (one new one, "Test" and one pre-existing one "Abstracts") and then exported a jpeg;

• started developing the other in RawTherappee, exported the file to Affinity Photo to finish developing it, assigned the same two keywords to it while still in AP, and then exported a jpeg (this represents my habitual workflow);

• opened XnView MP, selected the two jpegs, then >View>Update catalog from files;

• and, Eureka! the keywords "Test" and "Abstracts" in the Categories Filter show only one thumbnail for each of the two test photos, including after a program restart.

I hadn't modified XnView recently other than the above-mentioned addition of a base path, so this test does seem to suggest that the issue may indeed be associated with assigning a base path, but I will of course leave any official hypothesizing to your expertise.
