XnView Software

Attached are the same files viewed in XN and Bridge. The Date Created and Shot info does not display in XNview. FYI, Mike

By default XnView uses "File created date" and "EXIF: Date Modified" as thumbnail label. (See Tools >> Settings >> Browser | Thumbnails | Labels)

From what I can see your PNG file doesn't have EXIF information (at least XnView seems not to recognize it and therefore doesn't display the small "EXIF" overlay icon. Unlike XnView your Bridge software somehow retrieves the information (perhaps stored as XMP data)? But I'm guessing here.

I think one of the many advantages of png (and dng) files is that they contain all the information that any sidecar file holds separately. So, you don't have the responsibility of always ensuring that sidecars are moved when the file is moved with a Finder or Explorer type of product. They are self-contained or, at least, that is what I see.
So, whereas Bridge does pick up and display the png file information, as shown, XNView doesn't. It is definitely there and, it seems, an oversight (bug?) in XNView that this information doesn't display - I use it.

PNG supports XMP but not EXIF, so i think that this date is in XMP metadata, could you send me a sample file?

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.00 beta. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

you need to use View>Update catalog on your files (the database need to be updated)

I've just done that and restarted XNview. Still not happening, as shown. Mike

OK, just discovered that, if I select the files that are not displaying the info, then View>Update Catalog from files, they show the info. The ones that are not selected don't show the info. Thanks, Mike

Yes, it works fine provided you select the files that are not displaying the info before you update the catalog. If not, their info doesn’t display. So long as a user knows that, like me, now, no problems Thanks, Mike
