XnView Software

Hi Everyone,

I am new to XnView Classic.

I am interested in an image viewer that can also "batch convert" (using a graphical user interface vs. command line) a series of image files, and in the conversion process not only change the images from one format to another (e.g. "PNG" to "PNG"), but also will allow resizing/rescaling the output images, as well (e.g. converting a series of "PNG" files currently at "72 DPI" to "PNG" files at "300 DPI"). I was looking at the "XnView Wiki" and found a section on "Resizing (How To Increase or Reduce the Size of an Image)" TinyURL: https://tinyl.io/6FQZ, and saw the screenshot "Resize-dlg.png" (Annotated PNG copy attached to this message, for your reference).

Would it be possible, when performing a "batch conversion" in "XnView Classic" to simply change the numeric value in the "Units: pixels/inch" box, as shown in the screenshot "Resize-dlg.png" from a current unit value of "72" pixels/inch to a unit value of "300" pixels/inch, and then also taking the necessary steps to also convert the image from current "JPG" format to "PNG" format, and then preform a "batch conversion" that would not only change image formats but also size/resolutions, as well?

If someone would please reply to this message and let me know is this type of technique would work for a "batch conversion" in XnView Classic, I would really appreciate it.

You want to just batch change the DPI, which will as a consequence change the image size (inch/cm), or resize the pixel dimensions and also change the DPI?

Batch convert in any XnView software, 'Classic, 'MP or XnConvert, allows multiple actions to be performed, and the output images to then be saved to any supported format.

Note: I'm primarily a Linux user now, so can't run XnView Classic easily.

Actually, the first part of your response "you want to just batch change the DPI, which will as a consequence change the image size (inch/cm)" was indeed correct, along with wanting to change the file type format (e.g. "JPEG" to "PNG") at the same time, in a "batch" conversion process.

Judging from your answer, it definitely sounds like "XnView" (perhaps the "MP" version of the program) would be able to accomplish what I want, in a graphical (vs "command line") interface.

Let me know if this would not be the case. Otherwise, I will go ahead and download and install "XnView MP" and then begin my batch conversions.

Yes, it should be straightforward: in XnView MP look for Tools > Batch convert... in the editor or file browser. By chance, a new action Set DPI has recently been added at my request as a direct method of changing an images's DPI without a risk of unexpected complications!

For reference, XnConvert is the 'MP batch convert tool as a standalone software, could be useful if you will be doing conversions regularly.
