Download from camera issue

It appears from searching the forum this is an old question with 111 results. Nothing works for me. A little history: I have been using Bridge/Photoshop since V4. Now I am trying to dump this due to the cost and being retired and on the pension.

I have downloaded XnView as an alternative from Bridge and to run alongside Affinity and it seems fine in most respects except I cannot make it download images to particular folders at all. With some of the search results some keys mentioned don't even exist. I have downloaded MP v1.02 and MD as suggested in a previous forum response. MD does not do anything at all as far as I can see.

With MP I can find my cameras in twain, set it up as I require and when downloading it flashes up confirmation in the taskbar (win10) but whatever it does there, it does not download to the chosen folder or anywhere else on my computer that I can see. If this needs MD, where am I supposed to place that exactly? Currently it is in the main XnView folder in the programs file. Where am I going wrong here?

Please note that am a total newbie here, and never used anything other than bridge for uploading images and viewing/sorting them.
Many thanks.
Denis.

Media detector is an old tools, and works only with XnView Classic
In XnView MP, you can use 'Tools>Import and sort'
