Linux: How to open a folder, in the browser, keyboard only?

Using the mouse double clicking a folder, while in the browser, navigates inside the folder, how can this be done with only keyboard?
Maybe I'm missing something, maybe not, but it's weird because backspace goes "back/up" the folder but enter does nothing.
I'm trying to do this in "XnView MP Linux", version 1.3.0.

Did some trials, in the browser:
Enter on a folder does nothing.
Enter on a image does nothing.
Alt+enter "show properties" does nothing.
If I hit F2 to rename enter does work to finish the rename operation.
I'm using the default shortcuts and tried every combination for enter in the "switching mode" tab.
Also when I try to bind enter in the "Shortcuts" tab it tells me it's already bound to "Add to Favorites...", but it's not bound to that.
If I try to bind enter to "Add to Favorites..." it complains it's bound to "Archive...".

i've tried on Ubuntu, and no problem with Enter/Return/Backspace. Perhaps a settings of your distribution?

After some extra research I solved the issue.
I'm using endeavouros (Arch based), and I was using this aur package
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xnviewmp
I switched to the other one available
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xnviewmp-system-libs and now the enter key works.
I even went back and installed the previous package to double check and it didn't work.
Seems there is something that doesn't play nice with the bundled libs of the
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xnviewmp package.
