XnViewMP 1.3.0

I started to plow through my images and assigning categories.

How do I find the images that I have NOT assigned a category?

Thanks

Thank you for your request, artsi. In "Category Filter" tab there's a node "Special items > Uncategorized". When choosing this node all non-categorized files will be displayed. Please note that it may take a while till all the non-categorized files are displayed.

When using categories filter, set your choices in "Match" menu at the top of this pane. (Current folder ? , recursive or not ...)

And think about combining keyword writing with the use of categories (Settings, Metadata, export... , iptc or xmp). This will ensure that your work is saved for the future when keywords are saved in photos.
For jpeg format, embedded iptc or xmp keywords are standardized
For other formats, sometimes we need to use sidecar XMP files next to each photo.

Thank you.

I was looking and going through the categories tab. Couldn't find anything. I never say the "special items".

This started the day I got married, after that I can't find anything especially if it's just around the corner :D

Thanks

Congratulations to your marriage, artsi - love can confuse things and people. ;)

Here's where you can find the special category "Uncategorized" that I've described above:

By default, "Category filter" tab is visible and perhaps you've hidden it by accident. If so, you can unhide it here:

Please note that you can refine your search using "Match". E.g. you can search in local folder only or global. But currenctly there is no way to search all images which are NOT assigned to a specific category. Only thing that you can do is search for images that aren't assigned to any category - see above.

I got home and tried it. It found 36000+ images that are not categorized. That's too many to deal with with (for me).

Then I tried the search:

Image

but it still included images that already have categories.

How can I tell xnviewmp that the categories should be empty?

Thanks

Iptc categoy and xmp category are metadata that have nothing to do with xnviexmp categories.

If you enabled (settings>metadata>) "Export categories to iptc keywords and xmp subject" and "create" checkboxes, before categorizing , you can use the following metadatas in "Search" : xmp subject and iptc keywords.
Otherwise, you must use only "categories" in search screen as a criterion , choose "does not contain" and then, in the dropdown menu of categories , check all boxes.

But it's easier to use "Categories filter" pane.
If you don't want to get thousands of photos, you must first select a folder in your browser, and then, in the "Match" menu, select "current folder"
Now, "uncategorized" will give only uncategorized photos of this folder ...

---

Another way would have been to assign a "todo" category to all photos first, and remove "todo" on photos havig some other categories .
Then, the quick search field at the top of the browser allows you to select the photos with the "todo" category (settings> browser>Quick search ...) in the current set of photos displayed.

Thanks. I made this work but is there a shortcut to select all the categories at the same time? Right now I'm doing it one click at a time. I have 6 main categories and another 34 subcategories...

I can't get this to work because I do not find the "match" menu.

Thanks

Thanks for pointing it. I never saw that. I'm sure I would have seen it before I got married (I'm quite well trained  )
